Monthly Mountain Club

 

Our monthly mountain club gives you the chance to explore different mountains in Wales each month, professionally led and in a group. Group guided hikes will take place in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), Eryri (Snowdonia) National Parks, Cambrian Mountains & Berwyn Range.

2024

 

April

Sunday 28th

A circular walk of 12km through old quarrying and cave landscapes, to the whaleback summit of Fan Gyhirch and smaller summit Fan Fraith. This walk involves 450m ascent and some rough boggy ground.

July

Saturday 13th

A walk taking in two of the lesser-visited peaks in the Black Mountains, Pen y Gadair Fawr and Pen Twyn Mawr. A walk of 10km and 500m ascent, with forestry tracks and rough mountain terrain.

October

Saturday 12th

A 12km route visiting three summits in the Fforest Fawr area of the Brecon Beacons; Fan Llia, Fan Nedd & Fan Dringarth, as well as a Neolithic standing stone. 550m ascent and some very rough ground.

May

Friday 17th

In the far west of the Brecon Beacons, this out and back walk reaches 3 summits over 13km. The tallest, Garreg Las, has incredible prehistoric cairns at the top. The walk involves 500m ascent and roughy, boggy ground.

August

Sunday 18th

One of the best full day mountain walks in Wales; we’ll climb Pen yr Helgi Du, Carnedd Dafydd, Carnedd Llewellyn and Pen yr Ole Wen, with 15km, 1,100m ascent and two short sections of scrambling.

November

Saturday 9th

Two summits in the Black Mountains with amazing views over the Usk Valley. 15km and 700m ascent, starting and ending in Crickhowell. We’ll also visit the Iron Age fort Crug Hywel.

 

June

Sunday 2nd

Climb three peaks in the Moelwynion range; Cnicht, Moelwyn Mawr & Moelwyn Bach, an amazing landscape of abandoned quarries and quiet mountains. The route is 14km and involves 1000m ascent; a big day out.

September

Saturday 14th

A big day out on rough, rugged terrain in the wild Rhinogydd mountain range; we’ll be climbing Rhinog Fach & Rhinog Fawr, and visiting a waterfall en route. 15km, and 1000m ascent.

How does it work?

  • Each event is £35 per person

  • Early bird tickets are available for first three people to sign up

  • Loyalty discount for those returning

  • We have kit available for you to borrow if you let us know in advance

  • All walks organised & led by qualified, experienced Mountain Leader with first aid

  • Kit list & meeting details will be sent out after booking

  • If we have to cancel due to weather / low numbers / unforeseen circumstance you will be refunded - though we can’t cover any other costs incurred
