Frequently Asked Questions

How difficult are the walks?

As we tailor all walks to our clients, each walk is different, We use a grading system of easy - moderate - challenging, but of course this is general and subjective so please ask if you have any doubts. Here is what to expect:

Easy

Up to 4 miles of walking, and 200 metres total of climbing / descending, on a variety of terrain including grass, rocks, mud, sand and steps. Good balance and general fitness required.

Moderate

Up to 8 miles of walking, and 500 metres total of climbing / descending, on a variety of terrain including off-path, boggy ground, rocky terrain and steep slopes. Good fitness and endurance required.

Challenging

Between 8 and 12 miles of walking, up to 1000 metres total of climbing or descending, on a variety of terrain including off-path, boggy ground, steep slopes, and rocky scrambles. Strong fitness required, previous hiking experience useful.

Do you cancel if it’s raining?

There isn’t a straightforward answer for this. If there is going to be persistent rain combined with other factors that might make the day unsafe we would offer an alternative or a cancellation with full refund. However, if there are going to just be a few showers we will get on with our plans. We have spare waterproof layers if you need to borrow any please let us know in advance.

What do I need to bring and wear?

There is no special clothing required, please wear what you feel comfortable to walk in though we suggest quick-dry clothing and warm layers; jeans and heavy fabrics are best avoided.

Please see our kit lists here. We have spares of many items but please let us know in advance if you need to borrow anything.

I hate wearing hiking boots, why can’t I wear my own walking shoes or trainers?

Due to the terrain we’ll be walking on, there is a risk of lower leg injury, slips and trips, which can be avoided as far as possible by wearing hiking boots with ankle support and good grip. Our duty of care to you means we have to insist on this, and our insurance company will only cover us if you’re wearing boots. We have spares in most sizes which you’re able to borrow if you let us know in advance.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can read our terms & conditions here

I don’t have a car - how can I join a trip?

We are experienced in arranging experiences which are accessible by public transport, and we’re more than happy to advise you on this. We can meet you at a location that suits you.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, as long as you’re happy to keep them on a lead, pick up after them and ensure they don’t cause a disturbance to other people & wildlife / livestock. You may also have to carry them over stiles and carry additional water for them. If you’re joining a trip with others already booked on, we will ask them if they mind a dog joining. This keeps everyone happy. Dogs should be insured for causing injury - our insurance does not cover your dog. Please just drop us a quick line before booking if you’d like to bring your dog.
