Find your Way - First Steps - South Wales

Do you want to be able to plan great walks, with beautiful views, prepared for the weather and conditions and feel confident that you won’t get lost? I’ve designed the Find Your Way courses to help you do this. This course is the introductory course, which can be followed by the Find Your Way - Go Further and Adventure Seeker courses. We’ll be covering looking at the map, working out the key features and symbols. We’ll then begin to relate what we see on the ground to the map, learn about access, and plotting and following routes. It is a practical day so we’ll be out walking and using the map and everyone on the course will have a chance to be hands on and involved. We’ll also learn what to do if you become ‘lost’. GPS apps are great until your battery runs out, you get logged out and don’t have signal to log back in, or you drop or drown your phone (all of these have happened to me, thankfully I always have a map to hand and know how to read it!)

By the end of the day you should feel confident in being able to read and use a map to plan and follow routes in lowland areas with marked paths, and feel confident that you’ll be able to put yourself back on course if you become lost.

These courses are suitable for individuals, small groups, or as additional training for those on formal training schemes.
