Explorer Experience: Dawn on Cader Idris

IMG_20191230_090931.jpg

There are few mountains as evocative or atmospheric as Cader Idris. Or with views as elusive! For those who are lucky enough to experience the view from the top, the memory is one that you’ll be pressed to forget.

On this Explorer Experience we’ll be chasing that elusive sunrise view. Whether it arrives or not, spending dawn at the summit of the highest mountain in south Snowdonia is a special experience.

We’ll head out in the early hours of the morning, walking by torchlight, and with luck, we’ll experience some amazing views of the night sky, as this area is a Dark Sky Reserve. Pack breakfast and a flask of coffee for the top, and plenty of warm layers, we’ll spend some time here before heading down. Expect a climb of approximately 800m ascent and descent. It is steep and notoriously tough on the knees on the descent so if you have a knee injury this may not be the best walk for you. I’ll decide the route based on the conditions on the day.

*Please note, unfortunately I can’t control the weather, I’ll plan to go ahead with the walk in all weather as long as I consider it safe to. As it is a night walk, if it is going to be unpleasant weather I may cancel and offer a refund. In snow or ice this walk will not go ahead and an alternate date or refund will be offered.
